RICHARD WHITAKER - RACEHORSE TRAINER

Hellwood Racing Stables - where Horses come First!

Welcome to Hellwood Racing Stables, the small and friendly yard in the North where all the horses are cared for as individuals. Richard Whitaker is the trainer, with help from his wife Liz, and sons Simon and Tim.

Small doesn't mean unsuccessful though, and it was from here in West Yorkshire that Richard Whitaker trained Captain Rio to Group success.

Great pride is taken on turn out too, proof being the stack of Best Turned Out awards regularly won at the races.

Hellwood Farm is only 7 miles from Leeds towards Wetherby, and is central to a host of Yorkshire tracks, with excellent transportation links to the rest of the country. Considering it's proximity to Leeds and the A1, Hellwood is surprisingly quiet, set in 150 acres of rolling countryside as far as the eye can see.

HAWK IN THE SKY confirmed his early season form by winning his first handicap race at Catterick on Tuesday (29/10/19). He coped with the heavy ground there and led from start to finish. Congratulations to the Hawkins family!!

We now have five mares confirmed in foal to some classy stallions, and six yearlings, four  are by the excellent Aussie sprinter Spill The Beans, one by Outstrip and one by Lethal Force.

PENNY POT LANE has won again at Ripon, ridden by excellent apprentice, Gavin Ashton.(28/19/19). Tony Melville is the owner of this consistent mare who has now won 7 races, and has won at least once every year since 2015.

We are delighted to welcome back Liberty Breeze the homebred 2018 filly by Equiano out of Avon Breeze.
A beautiful filly, she was sold to Grange Park Racing at Goffs yearling sale, who owned 50% of her mother, Avon Breeze. We are really excited to see how she will develop and hope she takes after her mother. Of course she has already won, as Avon Breeze won whilst pregnant!
